Geoffery Bawa Geoffery Bawa was Sri Lanka's most renowned architect and amongst the leading architects in entire Southeast Asia in the 20th century. Born to wealthy parents of mixed European and Ceylonese descent in 1919, he studied in eminent educational institutions in Sri Lanka and England. He entered the field of architecture late at the age of 38 in 1957 but soon established a name in architecture by his work which was sensitive to site and context. His buildings include the University of Ruhuna in Matara, The Sri Lanka Parliament Building, several Hotels and Residence Units.
The Heritance Ahungalle is one of his masterpieces in hotel architecture and his concept of open space, natural light and unique design is amply portrayed in the design of the hotel. Geoffery Bawa died in 2003 but his legacy still lives on through his students and protiges
