Nuwara Eliya Mountains:

Sri Lanka’s “Little England” was discovered in the 19 th Century by British rulers in the island.
It was so-called because of its amazing similarity to English summer climates.
Nuwara Eliya is the heart of world famous “Ceylon Tea” with hectares of tea plantations, waterfalls and beautiful landscaped gardens.
British Plantation owner Sir Samuel Baker was so smitten by the spell of Nuwara Eliya and brought hounds, horses, cattle, and sheep and started a typical English farm over 150 years ago. Englishmen and ladies used to holiday and also convalesce in Nuwara Eliya to avoid the long ocean voyages to England. Its colonial styled tea planters bungalows, steep gable-roofed homes, a picturesque lake and golf course and the Hill Club where Colonial Planters gathered in the evenings reminisce ts past with the British.

Mountains of Sri Lanka

Cool mists of Nuwara Eliya and the heart of Ceylon Tea country

The perfect getaway from hot desert climates and polluted city air. The cool freshness of Sri Lanka's mountains was a best kept secret until the British discovered it in the 19 th century and promptly called it “Little England” because it had a climate similar to England's summer. They modeled it like an English village with farms, gable-roof houses and built a lake, a golf-course, horse stables and racing circuit and planted thousands of acres of Tea.
